Year 2 2018-2019 Spring Term

Spring Term

Which countries of the world can we learn about and why is it important?

We will be launching our Spring Term learning with a visit from an ‘Earth Explorer’ from Freshwater Theatre Company.  During this term we will learn about the continents and oceans of the world, how to use compass directions and co-ordinates, and how to identify the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the equator and the North and South Poles.

After reading ‘Grandpa Chatterji’ by Jamila Gavin we will then explore India and compare it to the United Kingdom.  We will also read ‘Mia’s Story’ by Michael Foreman and find out more about North and South America, including the Amazon Rainforest.

We will explore African weather and wildlife linked to the book ‘Akimbo and the Lions’ by Alexander McCall Smith.  We will also learn about and create art in the style of Aboriginal art.

Our visit to the Botanical Gardens will link to our Discovery Learning and also our Science learning about plants and living things.

We love and learn together by growing in friendship with Jesus
