God made me and called me to be a witness for Him in this world.
Year 5 2018-2019
God made us all and called us to Love & Serve Him
Autumn Term: Why is water so important in our lives?
Spring Term: What can we learn from ancient civilisations? (Greeks)
Summer: How do people influence our environment in Britain,
Europe and the rest of the world?
In addition to regular participation at Mass, children are given the opportunity to conduct and lead their own prayer services for our class (see RE pages). Our altar is the focal point of our classroom, dressed in accordance to the colours of the liturgical calendar. Children have the opportunity to add prayers to the prayer basket.
We usually have English and Mathematics lessons in the morning and cover RE, PE, PHSE, Science and Discovery Learning in the afternoons. Computing, DT, ART are taught in blocks, to ensure children can become immersed in their learning. Where possible learning is linked to our key question for the term.
To enhance the Year 5 curriculum, the children can look forward to several trips throughout the year. This year, the children will be visiting Safeside@Eastside to learn how to be responsible citizens, they will be visiting a local synagogue (https://solihullshul.org/) to understand the differences and similarities between Judaism and Catholicism and they will be visiting the Alexandra Theatre to see Awful Auntie by David Walliams. In addition to this, all of Key Stage Two attend a trip to the Old Rep.
Throughout the year children have the opportunity to take part in many sporting activities such as dodgeball, football, cricket and gaelic football as well as specialist PE lessons.
