- Testimonial from South Solihull Sports
It has been fantastic to see St Augustine's fully embrace the School Games and grow in confidence, enthusiasm and commitment throughout their journey. Despite being a one-form entry school, they have demonstrated exceptional engagement by attending every festival, competition and event available to them. Their dedication reflects a genuine commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for all pupils to participate and succeed.
St Augustine's has a clear understanding of the School Games intentions through the themes of Compete, Develop and Engage. They have wholeheartedly embraced these principles, ensuring that pupils are well prepared, supported and ready to take part in every opportunity. Their approach goes beyond participation, with a focus on creating positive experiences that develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and a lifelong enjoyment of being physically active.
The school fully recognises the power of high-quality Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity and the significant impact it can have on young people's wider outcomes, including physical health, mental wellbeing, confidence, social development and academic engagement. This understanding is reflected in the breadth and quality of opportunities they provide for their pupils.
St Augustine's has developed a strong culture of physical activity by offering a wide range of extra-curricular clubs, engaging lunchtime activities and embedding the principles of an active school throughout the day. Their commitment ensures that all pupils have regular opportunities to be active, regardless of ability or previous experience.
A particular strength is the school's use of pupil voice to shape and improve their provision. Their case study clearly demonstrates how they listened to the experiences of the girls targeted in 'Girl Power' and explored in greater depth the reasons why girls were less physically active. By identifying the barriers and concerns through meaningful consultation, the school was able to implement targeted changes that made participation more accessible, relevant and enjoyable. This thoughtful, evidence-informed approach has led to increased engagement and demonstrates the school's commitment to ensuring every young person feels included and empowered to be active.
St Augustine's has shown outstanding commitment to the values and vision of the School Games. Their inclusive approach, strong understanding of the wider benefits of physical activity and willingness to listen, reflect and adapt through pupil voice make them a highly deserving recipient of the Platinum School Games Mark Award.
